Pennine Magpie is a social enterprise based in Halifax , West Yorkshire with which Green Business Network (GBN) has a close cooperative relationship. Pennine Magpie provides vocational training for adults with learning difficulties or mental health problems through recycling projects.
The GBN provides management expertise and practical help in sourcing funding for the sustainability and expansion of Pennine Magpie’s recycling schemes. These include a cardboard collection and recycling scheme, which sells shredded cardboard for animal bedding; and a Scrap for Play scheme where unwanted materials from local businesses are re-used or recycled in schools. Until recently Pennine Magpie ran a carpet tile recycling scheme, selling recycled carpet tiles to community groups and other organisations. Unfortunately funding has now run out for this project.
