GBN offers free Environmental help for Kirklees businesses

Last Updated: Sep 3

Category: GBN Projects

Kirklees Council has made available funding to the GBN to employ an Environmental Business Advisor to give Kirklees businesses free advice on all environmental matters. Jim Porter has been appointed to the post

The two main ways that the GBN is looking to help Kirklees businesses improve their environmental performance, is through environmental audits and environmental toolkits. An environmental audit consists of a visit to a company to observe its environmental impacts, and through this and discussions with key staff an audit report will be drawn up. The report is designed to help businesses to lower their environmental impact, save money and comply with legislation. Suggestions are made to prevent pollution and reduce energy, waste, transport and water use, and through staff education and sustainable purchasing.

Environmental toolkits have so far been developed for businesses in offices, manufacturing, retail, and hospitality.

In addition Jim will be able to offer:

  • Help to calculate your businesses carbon footprint.
  • Advice on local recyclers from the GBN’s extensive database.
  • Help implementing an Environmental Management System.
  • Specialist advice on Packaging Waste regulations.
  • A database of local green companies.

The GBN are keen to work with businesses on other environmental issues and would like to hear what kind of environmental help your business is looking for. The GBN are also planning a series of free events, the first of which is a carbon reduction event on the 30th September.

If you would like to take advantage of the free environmental advice offered by the Green Business Network, please contact jim.porter@kirklees.gov.uk or call 01422 316661.
