The GBN has developed an environmental toolkit which is free to small and medium sized enterprises from all over the West Yorkshire area. The toolkit is a good starting point for those considering environmental improvements, and features many helpful suggestions to help your business save money and reduce its environmental impact.
The toolkit was developed with help from the Kirklees Environment Unit, which funded the GBN to perform environmental audits on 4 Kirklees businesses, Kempston Controls of Milnsbridge, Charlotte’s Jersey Ice Cream near Dewsbury, the Huddersfield Media Centre and Beaumont Street Studios which are both based in Huddersfield town centre. The toolkit is full of helpful suggestions developed from the lessons learned from these and other auditing experiences gained over the years.
The toolkit is split into five sections:
1. Quick Checklist features the top 20 general suggestions for businesses.
2. Actions feature many more suggestions that will not only be good for the environment, but will also save your business money. The suggestions cover several environmental topics relevant to businesses: pollution prevention, lighting and electricity, heating, water, vehicles, education and purchasing.
3. Legislation features the main current environmental legislation affecting business.
4. Further Information features a list of organisations to go to for further help and advice.
5. Local recyclers a list of local recyclers for everything from batteries to wood. This list is by no means comprehensive, so if you cannot find a company that meets your recycling requirements please contact the GBN, and we will try to find someone to help you.
For your free copy of the environmental toolkit please contact us at the GBN.
