On the 17th March the Mayor of Calderdale Cllr. Martin Peel opened the new community footpath in Mixenden on behalf of Calder Future. The footpath was made possible through £28,000 funding from Pennine Housing 2000; the Mixenden & Ovenden Initiative; and Landfill Tax funding from the GBN.

The Mayor dedicated the footpath to the local community. Anthony Rae, Chair of Calder Future, said that he hoped the footpath would encourage local people to feel a sense of pride in the green space on their doorstep.
The footpath opens up a stretch of land managed by Pennine 2000 which runs alongside Clough Bank Beck. In the past this area has been blighted by rubbish tipping and intrusion from off-road vehicles. It is hoped that the new gates will stop the nuisance caused by quadbikes, and by involving the local community, the space will become an asset which residents can enjoy and respect.
Staff from Pennine Housing 2000 have recently cleared the litter along half of the path, and have also refurbished the small seating area.
