National Grid Community 21 Award, January 2003
On 28 January the GBN and Kirklees Council proudly received the National Grid Community (NGC) 21 Award for community initiatives. The awards are presented to local authorities that support projects demonstrating the best new ideas in sustainability in community projects. The GBN’s Andrew Barker Lepton Employment (ABLE) Project in Lepton, Kirklees won the award of £5,000 to further develop its fish farming scheme. The award was collected from Jonathon Porritt at the awards ceremony in London.

The NGC 21 Awards have been developed by electricity transmission company National Grid in partnership with the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA), the UK Local Sustainability Group and Forum for the Future.
