Past projects

In the last 15 years, the GBN has developed a host of innovative projects which have centered resource reuse and recycling.

Intruplas Recycling Scheme

Intruplas Ltd was established in February 2000 to take mixed waste plastic from local busineses and turn it into value added products such as picnic tables, benches, planters, pallets, waterways revetment products and groundblocks for use in contructing pathways and car-park surfaces. GBN South Yorkshire

GBN South Yorkshire was developed as a closed loop system encompassing the largest social composting operation in the UK and a plastics reprocessing and assembly facility. This initiative was developed in conjunction with Outokumpu and was based in Sheffield. Although successful, the facility was unfortunately forced to close after the unexpected decision by OSL to close its coil products unit in Sheffield where the project was located. Pennine Pack

The Green Business Network established PENNINE-PACK, a packaging compliance scheme registered under the Producer Responsibility Obligation (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2005. The scheme, now under private ownership, assists companies to comply with the regulations. The strategy of Pennine-Pack is to establish locally based recycling schemes utilising members’ subscriptions and fees for this purpose, in preference to exporting packaging waste to developing countries.
